Nutritional Immunology

Have you wondered whether your body has a strong immune system for you to fight all the diseases? Or do you have enough nutrition from all the foods and drink you consume?  Nutritional Immunology helps you to understand better what is Nutritional Immunology and how it links with our immune system. “Nutritional Immunology” is an online Webinar organized by the Community Service Committee of the Centre for Foundation Studies (Kampar campus) in collaboration with Division of Programme Promotion  on the 17th of April 2021 via Zoom and FB Live platforms. A total of 66 participants who comprised of 18 UTAR staff, 22 students and 15 members of the public joined the webinar through Zoom Platform and total of 11 joined through FB Live.


The webinar began at 8p.m. with a warm welcoming message by the host, Mr. Tham Yeong Shyue followed by UTAR’s corporate video presentation. Once the video presentation ended, Mr Tham introduced the moderator, Ms Yuvashini to conduct the webinar session. Ms Yuvashini helped to introduce the topic for the webinar and then introduced the speaker Ms Lee Pei Lin.


Ms. Lee Pei Lin has been working as a Lifestyle coach for the past six years. She has experience handling a sick son that suffered from chronic bronchitis. She came to realization that the immune system can help to prevent sickness. Due to this, she has been actively promoting awareness of current health news and Nutritional Immunology content through social media, public talk, company lunch and learn and corporate bazaars.


The objectives of this talk was to create awareness about how our lifestyle, in particular what we consume in daily life helps us to prevent diseases during the COVID-19 and how we can be a wiser consumer of the food we eat today.


After giving a brief introduction of herself, the speaker started with the explanation of what is Nutritional Immunology. Nutritional Immunology focuses on how to link between plant foods based and the Immune system.  From this talk, the audience was exposed to the immune system that acts as an army to defend our body from bacteria. Plus, the speaker highlighted that our immune system, health and nutrition are interconnected with each other. She further elaborated nutrients that can help to fight diseases in order for the audience to have a better comprehension.


Lastly, the talk ended with an interactive Q&A session. Ms Yuvashini further thanked Ms Lee Pei Lin for sharing her valuable insights.
