The Department of Management and Accountancy of UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised the “Marketing Poster Challenge 2023” in July and August 2023. This Marketing Poster Challenge 2023 aimed to enhance learning in a competitive manner and to stimulate students’ interest in the fields of Marketing, Advertising and Business. Co-sponsored by Hovid Bhd, the event consisted of three separate parts: Canva workshops to prepare participants with essential poster designing skills, a poster creation challenge, and a presentation challenge.
Canva Workshops: The workshops were conducted on 12 July 2023 and 14 July 2023 and attracted a total of 44 enthusiastic participants. It aimed to equip the participants with poster designing skills and help the participants unlock their creativity. Participants received hands-on guidance on the usage of Canva by CFS Kampar Campus academic Ho Wai Yew.
Session 1 of Canva Workshop
Poster Creation Challenge: The Poster Creation Challenge took place on 26 July 2023. The participants designed their promotional posters for their chosen products using Canva. This challenge allowed the participants to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and ability to communicate their promotional message effectively through their posters within the given time frame.
3-minute Presentation Challenge: The Presentation Challenge served as the subsequent round following the Poster Creation Challenge and was conducted on 16 August 2023. The event kicked off with an opening speech by the Head of Department of Management and Accountancy of CFS Kampar Campus, Tsen Tzu Yee. Thereafter, the finalists stepped into the spotlight and presented their posters and marketing campaign in three minutes. The panel of judges who contributed their expertise to the event’s success were CFS Kampar Campus academic Chin Ngai Sim, Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) academic Dr Tan Chi Hau, and Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) academic Dr Nur Afni binti Halil.

After careful evaluation, the judges reached a conclusion, and the winners of the challenge were as follows:

2nd runner-up: Chai Jiun Ming
Consolation 1: Rachel Yong
Consolation 2: Stephanie Ng
Consolation 3: Joel Khoo
Consolation 4: Tan Boon Hee
Organising Committee Chairperson Zurina binti Abdullah mentioned that the committee was glad to see the enthusiastic participation from students in the Marketing Poster Challenge. Their performance during the Poster Creation Challenge was inspiring because it was able to evaluate their knowledge in designing and creating posters using Canva. Moreover, it helped to enhance learning in a competitive manner and sparked students’ interest in Marketing, Advertising and Business fields.
Expressing her delight, champion of the challenge, Tan said, “I am glad I took part in this competition. It allowed me to apply what I have learned in Marketing in creating my poster. It was also a good opportunity for me to unleash my creativity and brush up my presentation skills in a different setting outside the classroom.”
The event wrapped up successfully with a group photo-taking session.
