UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an educational talk titled “The Dangers of Vaping” at Shen Jai High School, Ipoh on 10 July 2023 to educate them about the harmful effects of vaping and promote a healthy lifestyle among the young individuals.
The engaging and informative talk was delivered by CFS Kampar Campus academic Ooi Siew Fong. With a remarkable turnout of over 900 students, the talk successfully captured the attention and interest of the audience. The presentation highlighted the ingredients of e-cigarettes and the negative aspects of vaping. Ooi also underscored the importance of staying away from such harmful habit. During the Q&A session that followed, the audience enthusiastically participated by asking thought-provoking questions. The project concluded with a group photo session.
Overall, the event at Shen Jai High School was a resounding success in achieving its objective of raising awareness about the dangers of vaping. Tan Hui Xin, a Senior 1 Science stream student at Shen Jai High School, expressed her appreciation for the talk, stating, “I was pleasantly surprised by the talk as it shed light on the negative aspects of vaping that I didn't know about. I was particularly concerned about the prevalence of vaping culture among young people, and I believe that the appealing and extensive marketing efforts used by the vaping industry are a big factor in this trend.”
Another Senior 1 Science stream student, Tan Yu Jin, shared her thoughts, saying, “I was overwhelmed by the six drawbacks of vaping that were mentioned during the talk. The speaker effectively conveyed the message that vaping should not be seen as a smoking alternative or a means to quit smoking. Considering the ongoing development of young children’s brains, I am worried about the health risks they face when they engage in vaping.”
